Cradled in the heart of Zululand alongside the Mkuze River is the 5-star Amakhosi Lodge. Situated on 12 000 hectares in the “Big Five” AmaZulu Private Game Reserve, Amakhosi’s uniqueness hinges on its Zulu heritage. Luxury transcends each of the eight river suites, which rest in harmony with their surroundings. High ceilings, glass walls and private viewing decks all add to the overall impression of being one with nature. Each suite has a lounge, bedroom and en-suite bathroom with a unique bath made for two. Qualified rangers accompany guests on early morning and late afternoon guided walks and game drives.

“Quintessential Africa!” has been the exclamation of several guests visiting the owner-managed Three Tree Hill Lodge. Set in the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, the luxurious private rooms overlook a secret valley of the Spioenkop Game Reserve. In the lee of that famous hill, Spioenkop, the period-piece lodge has been built on a hillside amongst the striking Aloe Spectabilis and the Paperbark Acacia. Relax on the large colonial-styled verandah from where rhino, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu, numerous smaller antelope can be seen, perhaps even from your bath! So far 290 bird species ranging from Cape Vultures and Lanner Falcons to Buff Streaked Chats and Fairy Flycatchers have been recorded in the area.

Midlands Forest Lodge is perched high up on the edge of luscious green hills and slopes. This tranquil and secluded hillside retreat lives up to its name by bordering on pristine indigenous forest where fauna and flora abound and a natural sanctuary to numerous species of birds exists. At an altitude of 1340m, one can survey the un-spoilt beauty of the Midlands valley from one of 12 well appointed suites. Utmost care has been taken in making the cosy log cabins blend harmoniously with nature. Enjoy a leisurely walk on the escarpment or explore the forest with its towering giant yellowwood trees.

Imbabala Lodge is situated alongside the beautiful Thukela biosphere just off the R74 about half way between Weenen and Greytown in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands – close to the historic battlefields and the famous Midlands Meander. The lodge is nestled on the slope of Mount Moriah and enjoys spectacular sunsets. Imbabala boasts a large variety of game including giraffe, nyala, bushbuck, hartebeest and several other species, many of which gather in the grassland close to the lodge at sunset. Accommodation is simple but comfortable and consists of four self catering chalets and four rondavels which are not self catering. Wholesome home style meals are served.
