Limpopo Towns and Cities

Venda – rich in cultural significance this is an area of sacred places found at waterfalls and rivers, lakes and forests where ‘zwidutwane’ water spirit lives.

Polokwane – visit the open-air museum, the Polokwane Gamereserve or simply pass through this capital of the Limpopo, on your way to central Kruger National Park, Letaba area or the Lowveld and it connects Tzaneen and Phalaborwa with the R71. Letaba is forested and mountainous, lakes and rivers. Tzaneen is known for the tea, avocado and macadamia nut farming. This part of Limpopo is very popular with hikers and for trout fishing.

Mokopane – the Arend Dieperink Museum (displaying many farm implements on the outside) hosts an incredible display of significant archeological Makapan’s Cave discoveries (some 19km north of Potgietersrus) – including fossils of 3 million years old.

The Kruger National Park - Founded in 1898, KNP now has 25 camps and a variety of accomodation. It stretches 350km over two provinces (2 million hectares) from the Sabie river in the South to the Northern Limpopo river. It hosts 147 mammal species (including the Big5), 500-plus bird species 9of which the biggest concentration of birds of prey worldwide), 140 reptiles, 49 fish species and 330 trees.
