Free State, South Africa

The Free State, situated on a plateau between the Orange and Vaal Rivers in the centre of South Africa, is an agricultural region with weather patterns to suit. Summers are hot with brief afternoon thunderstorms and the dry winters are cold with temperatures that often drop below freezing point. The visitor will find some of the countryside planted sunflower fields and framed by cosmos flowers and some with sandstone cliffs. This is an area of big spaces, in land, skies and atmosphere.
