Bloemfontein – this is a truly beautiful city, any time of the year. It is tree-filled, has a stunning National Botanical Garden and even contains the Franklin Game Reserve in its centre. Naval Hill stands proudly in this game reserve, offer great views of the city and host antelope, zebra, giraffe and is great for birding enthusiasts. On the 3d of January 1892 baby JRR Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein and would grow up to be one of the world’s most celebrated writers.
Bloemfontein offers excellent theatergoing in its magnificent Sand du Plessis theatre and has many restaurants to choose from. One could visit the waterfront for shopping and dining or enjoy art exhibitions in the old President’s home, Oliewenhuis. This old beauty is now converted into a massive gallery with restaurant outside under the trees and great ambience.

Clarens – this quaint town houses many a creative soul and the visitor will be spoiled with a wide choice of art galleries and eateries. Clarens is also conveniently close to Golden Gate National Park – a stunning National Park known for its richly coloured sandstone (hence the Golden naming) and plentitude of different grass species. Close to Lesotho, this is a place of immense beauty. Then one can visit QwaQwa Natural Park to experience the Basotho Cultural Village or Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve – this bird’s paradise is a Wetland of International Importance listing because of its hosting many endangered bird species ike the wattled and blue crane.
Vredefort Dome - The Vredefort dome meteorite site is the world’s oldest (2 billion years old) and largest (40kms in diameter) and the newest World Heritage Site to South Africa.
Vaal river, Gariep and Sterkfontein Dam – these three places offer fantastic water sport amenities, camping and fishing facilities and great bird watching.
