Madiba Transkei – this stretch is stunning and time seems to stand still. Farms hug the coastline and cows dotted on the beach is an everyday sight. This is also where ex-president Mandela resides. A wild space with great energy, Transkei also offers modern amneties in the form of Umtata City where one can shop for craft. Many resorts are sensitively situated along the coast and offers the usual watersports and other facilities or go for the 5-day, 280km long Wild Coast hiking trail through beautiful wilds.

Grahamstown – the ‘City of Saints’ has over 40 churches and cathedrals and is famous for its historic value, architecture, farming and Rhodes University. It is here that the Standardbank Arts Festival is hosted every July.

Grahamstown

Hogsback – this is a place of immense beauty, somewhere for the romantics, botanists, tired souls and everyone inbetween. Streams and waterfalls tumble through forests, back by the Amatola mountains and framed by a plentitude of ferns, rhododendrons, St. Joseph’s Lilies and other indigenous species. This is fairy-tale illustrations for real.
