St. Vincent and the Grenadines
The Caribbean
The Caribbean needs no introduction, is loved by all that’s been there and entices those that haven’t! It is basically the combination of the Caribbean Sea (over 2,700,000 km²), the West Indies Islands and coasts. It lies SE of the Gulf of Mexico, bounded by Mexico on the South and West, Central America, Antilles in the East and North and South America on the South.
The Caribbean coral reefs are mostly situated off the Central American coast and Caribbean Islands and cover about 50,000 km². Due to warming waters, almost half of the coral have whitened and due to economical importance, a Protocol of the Convention for the Protection and Development of the Marine Environment of the Wider Caribbean Region came in effect in 1986, helping to protect these homes-of-diverse-habitats. Caribbean Marine life includes turtles, coral reef, fish of every kind and more.
The Caribbean climate and weather is typically tropical but this holiday destination is also known, and respected, for its hurricanes. Winters are wonderfully dry and mild.
Caribbean geography varies and places such as Jamaica, St. Vincent and Trinidad, Dominica, Hispaniola, Cuba, Montserrat, Saba, St. Kitts and St. Lucia, Puerto Rico and Grenada are quite mountainous. Others such as the Bahamas and Bonaire, Cayman Islands and Caicos Islands, Turks and Barbados plus Antigua are quite flat.
Caribbean Cuisine have African, French and Indian, Spanish and Amer-Indian influences and commonly enjoyed is ‘jerk’ meats (seasoned) and chicken, fried goat and duck, beans and rice.
