Top restaurants move into the Cape Quarter
With De Waterkant in Green Point, Cape Town rapidly becoming the new heart of the City the opening of the new Cape Quarter offers residents and visitors alike a retail shopping destination like no other in the Cape Town.
This vibrant, creative epi-centre is individual in that its tenants are like no other. Entrepreneurial, independent and unique are the elements that set this brand new venue apart. The ambience of the environment - the blend of old and new is both soothing and appealing. Having preserved the Cape architectural features to ensure that the lifestyle centre blends in with the surroundings this is urban renewal at its best!
If you are looking for unusual places to eat then the newly opened Cape Quarter addition is the place to go. Tempting the hungry and the not so hungry the restaurants spill out on to the Piazza and outdoor areas to create a relaxed Mediterranean environment where leisure is paramount and good food the key.
Offering a trip around the world the dining experience is just one of the many highlights offered by this new lifestyle centre. All the restaurants are individually owned and have made their name through personal service and superb foods. Some are opening in Cape Town for the very first time so the experience will be unique.
BICCCS (Bread, Ice cream, Cake, Croissant, Coffee and Sandwiches) is exactly what it says with a seriously Italian twist. Having achieved great success in Gauteng Southern Italian patriarch Giovanni Mazzone and his South African protégé Gavin van Zyl now bring their baking expertise to Cape Town. Just for starters these are the some of the creations that have us salivating! Pangiovanni (named after its creator), the delicious schiacciatta flat bread, spinach and ricotta pies, hearty slabs of carrot cake and pain au chocolat to die for. Pièce de resistance is Giovanni’s marsala-laced glacé-fruit Spumoni frozen dessert – simply divine!
Cru Café- Wine Bar & Restaurant is a new and funky restaurant where you can enjoy a casual meal and sample an extensive selection of wines both from South Africa but also offering some great international options. The term ‘Cru' refers to a vineyard recognised as of superior quality and hence the name Cru Café was born reflecting a philosophy where patrons can experience a special destination where the dining experience as a whole is of a superior and consistent quality. The cosmopolitan style menu will please all tastes and chef Wesley Petterson pulls out all the stops to please his patrons.
LAZARI offers a casual alternative to fine dining with its Mediterranean menu and light, stylish meals. Child friendly, the restaurant is an easy ambience spilling indoors and outdoors.
Vanilla is set to bring fresh spice to Cape Town’s gourmet scene. Manhattan style fine dining is what you can expect from this brain-child of restaurateur Nigel Newhouse who is owner of the mega successful Tuscany Beach Restaurant on Camps Bay’s beachfront. With Chef Matthew Gordon of Haute Cabriere and the French Connection as consultant, Vanilla promises to bring new glamour to the restaurant scene.
Voila! brings an exotic and slightly eccentric theme to the mix. A stylish retro café bar French contemporary food graces the menu and the atmosphere is cosy and friendly.
