South African Tourism celebrates two World Travel Award wins
Highest achievement in travel and tourism for Indaba and South African Tourism
DESTINATION South Africa and the South African travel and tourism industry had every reason in the world to celebrate as two prestigious World Travel Awards were bestowed last night respectively on South African Tourism (named best destination marketing organisation in Africa) and on Indaba (named Africa’s leading travel exhibition).
The Awards were made during the Africa category of the annual World Travel Awards in Durban last night. This was the first time the Awards presented an Africa category and each of the 75 African winners will be represented at the annual world finals that take place in December in the Caribbean.
In reacting to news of the two wins, South African Tourism CEO, Moeketsi Mosola said it was a great honour to be recognised in this way. The Awards were evidence that the creativity, application and hard work of the South African Tourism and Indaba teams had been justly recognised.
“It is our ambition to be the best destination marketing organisation,” he said, “and to establish Indaba as a premier global travel trade show. These ambitions relate directly to our mandate to grow this industry; make South Africa a premier leisure destination and contribute significantly, thorough tourism, to the national economy, to job creation and to socio-economic transformation. It is good to be recognised by the World Travel Awards for the winners we are.”
The World Travel Awards are made based on votes by travel professionals from 167,000 agencies in more than 160 countries. They are the highest achievement a travel product can hope to achieve and reflect the cream of global standards of excellence.
