Holidays on Budget in South Africa

Holidays on Budget in South Africa

Simple activities to keep your family and wallet happy:

- Visit concerts in the park. Pack picnics and make an outing of it; it’s romantic for two and/or fun for kids.

- Keep your eyes on the What’s Happening in Your Town. Newspapers can often provide you with free outing ideas.

- Plan a stay-at-home holiday and pre-write an itinerary as you would anywhere else. Leave home early with packed lunches and see wonderful sites in your area.

- Head into a beautiful natural area for a day’s hike, with bags to collect litter.

- Do a relaxed study on any subject such as ants – go to the library, Google and take field trips, take photographs and draw pictures, do relevant crafts and take out movies on the subject.

- Check libraries for reading/other programs.

- Go bird watching.

- Go bike riding.

- Go fishing.

- Go overnight-hiking.

- Go beach combing.

- Have your supper earlier, somewhere gorgeous while watching the sun go down.

- Learn a new craft, sport or game.

- Make doll/farm houses out of two shoe-boxes stapled together; add some vegetable scraps and soft plant material such a straw. Go find a place in the wild to leave someone/thing a home.

- Climb on any bus and go full-circle… kids love it!

- Lie under a tree and stare at the clouds or stars.
