The Green Vuvuzela
I South Africa soccer fans and vuvuzelas go hand in hand – it is so to speak the sound of soccer here. During matches, the streets echo to the sounds of plastic, tin and other vuvuzela trumpets.
For 2010, Cape Town is giving birth to a newer and greener Vuvuzela which will also be the ideal item to take back home afterwards as momento. Adam Carnegie, father behind the fantastic kelp vuvuzela, has given birth to an eco-friendly and organic, true to Africa, material that finally also gets painted by South African artists. The Kelp Environmental Learning Project (a.k.a Kelp) has founded a very symbolic project as kelp plants grow to support one another – a goal for Kelp too by creating jobs and sharing the joy of being present.
The 2010 visitor and fan will find South African flag coloured ones, black and white vuvus for Pirates club or red and white for Ajax, black and yellow for Chiefs. With international team colours to follow soon.
